Accessibility

We want everyone who needs information about the Port of Fleetwood or the Port of Silloth to be able to get it, whether or not they can use this website easily.

What we are aiming for

We are not a public body, so the accessibility regulations that apply to government websites do not apply to us. We do have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage, and we take that seriously.

What we have done

This site was built and checked to meet these points:

  • Text and background colours meet the contrast ratios in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
  • Every page has one main heading and a consistent heading structure, and every image has a text description.
  • Pages work on screens as narrow as 320 pixels without scrolling sideways, and text can be enlarged without breaking the layout.
  • Buttons and links that you tap are at least 44 pixels high on phones and tablets.
  • The menu and every page work without JavaScript, and there is a link to skip straight to the content.
  • The site follows your browser's text size and its reduced motion setting.

The site has not yet been independently tested against WCAG with assistive technology such as screen readers. When it has, the result will be published here.

Where we know we fall short

Scanned documents

The byelaws for both ports exist only as scans of paper originals with no machine-readable text: the Fleetwood Harbour and Docks Bye-Laws 1982 and the Silloth byelaws. A screen reader cannot read them. We are working on searchable versions.

Plans, charts and surveys

Port plans, berth layout plans and hydrographic surveys are drawings. They cannot be made fully accessible in their published form.

For the byelaws, and for any drawing or survey, ask us and we will provide the information in another format, including reading it to you over the telephone, or supplying large print or plain text.

If you cannot use this site

Contact the harbour office and we will give you the information another way. If you need information in a particular format, tell us what would work for you.

Telling us about a problem

If you find something on this site you cannot use, please tell us. It helps us fix it, and we would rather know.

Update coming

Accessibility feedback email and response target. This is being confirmed and will be published here.

Enforcement

If you are not happy with how we have responded, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service, which advises on the Equality Act 2010, at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
