Port of Silloth
Port of Silloth
The Port of Silloth stands on the Solway Firth in Cumbria and covers about 42 acres. It is an enclosed dock port. Vessels enter New Dock through the dock gate on the tide.
Marshall Dock, marked tidal on the port plan, lies alongside New Dock. The port serves grain, flour, molasses, cement and agricultural cargoes. The port plan shows a molasses terminal, cement silos, grain silos, a suction elevator, covered and open storage, a weighbridge and berths numbered 1 to 7.
The harbour authority
From 18/09/2026 the statutory harbour authority is FJ Ports (Silloth) Ltd, company number 15559785, in place of Associated British Ports. The change is made by The Ports of Fleetwood and Silloth (Transfer of Undertaking) Harbour Revision Order 2026, SI 2026 No. 404. See the change of authority notice.
The Silloth byelaws continue in force. So do the notices to mariners, the harbour limits and the port plan.
Getting in
Silloth is a tidal port. VHF Channel 12 is manned only through each tidal period, and only from 2.5 hours before high water. Outside those hours, work Channel 16. The call sign is Silloth Harbour Radio.
If you need a pilot, ask your agent to contact the port at least 12 hours before you reach the pilot station. See pilotage. Full detail is on the port information page.
Current condition of New Dock
The dock gate leaks
Over a tide it can pull the level in New Dock down by as much as 1.9 metres. This was published as Notice to Mariners 01/2025, dated 27/10/2025, and it remains in force. Masters should plan for it.
